Vladislav Tretyak is called glory. Vladislav Tretyak - biography, information, personal life. CSKA: senior category

Member of the faction of the political party "United Russia".
Member of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection.

Vladislav Tretyak was born on April 25, 1952 in the village of Orudyevo, Dmitrovsky district, Moscow region. His father, Alexander Dmitrievich, was a military pilot. Mother - Vera Petrovna, worked as a physical education teacher in a secondary school, was fond of bandy and even participated in competitions at the Moscow level.

In the future, Vladislav received two higher educations: in 1976 he graduated with honors from the Moscow State Academy of Physical Culture with a degree in Physical Education Teacher; in 1983 - Military University of the Ministry of Defense Russian Federation.

Vladislav grew up athletic child. Together with his parents, every Sunday he went to the skating rink in the Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure. I tried swimming, then I became interested in diving, acrobatics, then I tried my hand at different sports, but soon came to hockey. Regularly participated in school competitions athletics, football, basketball and skiing.

Hockey began to play at the age of 11, in the Children's Youth sports school CSKA on Leningradsky Prospekt, where his mother brought him. Vladislav passed the competitive selection to the Moscow club. The ability to ride in reverse helped to get into the top four accepted candidates. His first coach was Vitaly Georgievich Erfilov. At first, the young man played as a striker, but he was embarrassed by the lack of a hockey uniform, which was not enough for everyone. At that time, the team did not have a goalkeeper, then Vladislav turned to his coach saying that if he was given a real form, he would be a goalkeeper.

Vladislav's father did not approve of his son's hobby for a long time and even joked that the hockey player reminded him of a janitor with a broom. However, gradually the parents came to terms with the choice of their son, especially since the guy quickly began to make money on his sport.

In the summer of 1967, CSKA coach Anatoly Tarasov became interested in the young goalkeeper. Tretyak began to train with the players of the main team. At the same time, he was engaged in a youth team, and when in mid-July professional team went south, Vladislav returned to the youth team. Together with his team, Tretyak became the champion of Moscow and received the prize of the best goalkeeper. The ambitious guy persistently went to the goal and at the age of 16 he was accepted into the main team of the famous club.

In 1969, Vladislav Tretyak made his debut as part of CSKA, and his first opponent was Spartak Moscow. The guy's abilities and fighting character soon secured him a place as the main goalkeeper. In parallel, Vladislav participated in several international tournaments, as a player in the USSR youth team. His participation in this team ended after a rapid leap forward - he moved to the national team.

The talented athlete became the reserve goalkeeper of the USSR national team in 1970. The same season brought Vladislav the first gold of the World Championship in Stockholm. The following year, at the World Cup, he played already as the main goalkeeper of the national team. In Switzerland, the game was won, and Vladislav became world champion for the second time. In 1972, he won Olympic gold, playing brilliantly in every match and conceding the fewest goals. In addition, he turned out to be the youngest Olympic champion hockey player.

In the spring of 1972, he won silver at the World Championships. In the autumn of 1972 he took part in the Super Series-72. Later, Vladislav participated in the next two Super Series, where the USSR team became the winner. In addition, 1975 brought the athlete one of the most exciting matches of his career against the Montreal Canadiens. In 1976, the hockey player was honored to carry the flag of the USSR national team at the opening of the Olympic Games, as a result of which he became the Olympic champion for the second time.

In 1980, at the Olympics in Lake Placid, the combined team of the USSR unexpectedly stumbled - a round before the end, the team was defeated by the US student team. Tretyak left the game long before the end of the match, he was replaced by Vladimir Myshkin. Over the next 2 periods, the situation could not be corrected. The game ended with a score of 3:4 and entered the history of hockey as a "miracle on ice". Despite this, already in 1981 the team won the Canada Cup.

At the hockey tournament in Sarajevo in February 1984, the USSR national team won gold, defeating its main rival, Czechoslovakia. First hockey goalie became a three-time Olympic champion, thereby setting a world record. The last time the legendary hockey player took to the ice was on December 22, 1984. Vladislav retired from hockey at the age of 32, choosing a family that for a long time, due to constant competition and training, remained in second place. He was recognized five times as the best hockey player of the USSR, three times - the best hockey player in Europe, twice - the best goalkeeper world championships.

The first matches of the Super Series-72 shocked the hockey community. The North American press attacked the NHL players who performed poorly, criticizing them on all counts. Canadian forwards especially got it, in the Canadian part of the series they looked like a shadow of themselves. There were many reasons for this, but the most compelling of them was the amazing game of the goalkeeper of the Soviet team Vladislav Tretiak. Tretyak was born in the village of Orudyevo near Moscow on April 25, 1952. As a child, he went through a good school in a number of sports, among which were ski race, football, and even gymnastics. And a chance helped little Vladislav stop his eyes on hockey. Once he and three comrades came to Leningradsky Prospekt, to the CSKA Sports Palace, where they were recruiting hockey school. There was a real pandemonium at the gate - it seemed that all the Moscow boys at once decided to become hockey players. By that time, Tretyak was already decently skating and had a wonderful physical shape - thanks to other sports. Not surprisingly, he was among the four accepted. At the age of 17, Tretyak made his debut in the army team of masters and already by that time had such a winning spirit that he perceived any defeat as a personal insult. He was not afraid of bruises and cuts, but if the team lost, Tretyak suffered a lot, worried, could not sleep. We had to wait for the next game and new victories. The latter, however, were much more than defeats. Together with his team, Tretyak became the champion of Moscow, receiving the prize of the best goalkeeper. Even earlier, at the European Championships, the youth team of the USSR, where Vladislav was the second goalkeeper, took silver. And although the performance was considered unsuccessful, after this tournament, the famous goalkeeper Nikolai Puchkov said: “I don’t like to lavish compliments on young people, but now I’ll willingly change my rule, I have one boy named Vladik. He conquered me in training with an amazing reaction, mobility, courage. I believe it will be of use." Master game young hockey player CSKA coach Anatoly Tarasov also liked it. The mentor took Tretiak both to the main team of the army club and to the national team of the Soviet Union. Already in 1969, Vladislav took part in his first world championship and won it, however, as an understudy for another great goalkeeper, Viktor Konovalenko. However, Tretyak did not have to wait long for the role of the first goalkeeper of the national team. The following year, it was his actions that brought the Soviet team another title, and in total, our hero won ten world championships and three winter olympics. He was one of the most prominent figures in the legendary 72 Super Series as well. No one believed in Soviet hockey players in Canada, and even here we were seriously afraid of professionals smashing everything in their path. But the meetings, contrary to all forecasts, were held on an equal footing, and Vladislav Tretiak from the very first matches became the favorite of Canadian spectators. The speed with which he reacted to the movement of the puck amazed the North American professionals. It was felt that if he played in the NHL, he would be one of the best. Spectators abroad flocked to him to get autographs. Yes, and books that were published in America were swept off the shelves in the very first days. It is not surprising that Tretyak has been trying to get NHL clubs for a long time. The last attempt was made by “Montreal” in 1984, when the goalkeeper himself was already 32 years old – the pre-retirement age for a hockey player of that time. But Vladislav Aleksandrovich was not allowed to cross the ocean, and he could not flee the country, as some players did in the late 80s. The great goalkeeper remained in the Soviet Union, but left hockey - he had nothing to win, there were no unconquered peaks left. Subsequently, Tretyak made a notable public career, not forgetting, however, about hockey. In 2000, he joined the Russian Presidential Council for Physical Culture and Sports. In 1998 and 2002, he was a member of the coaching staff of the Russian national team, which won silver and bronze medals at the Olympic Games. In December 2003, he first became a State Duma deputy, heading the Committee on Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, and in 2006 he headed the Russian Ice Hockey Federation. by Farid Bektemirov

MOSCOW, 25 April. /TASS/. Three-time Olympic hockey champion Vladislav Tretyak turns 65. Tretyak is recognized as the best hockey player of the 20th century according to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and the best goalkeeper in history. Since 2006, he has been the head of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation.

Tretiak was brought up in the family of a military pilot, went in for swimming with his older brother, and from an early age was good at skating. Thanks to this, he passed the competition for the CSKA hockey school, located not far from home - on Leningradsky Prospekt.

"TASS/Russian Ice Hockey Federation"

Once in the attackers, which all the boys dream of, Tretyak, nevertheless, soon became a goalkeeper - the field players lacked uniforms, and young Vladik dreamed of real hockey ammunition, which was given out only to goalkeepers.

In general, the accidental appearance of a young goalkeeper in an army school ultimately predetermined the success of domestic hockey for almost two decades. Numerous victories of CSKA and the USSR national team are largely associated with the game of Tretyak - having the most reliable goalkeeper in the world behind him, it was possible to act brightly in attack without worrying about the rear.

Although it might seem that the level of skill of the Soviet forwards was such that a reliable goalkeeper was not required, this was not the case. Many matches and tournaments were won by saving Tretiak, who gave the partners a chance to win in attack.

"Tretyak is a great man and player. He was the first goalkeeper to start reading the game at this level."

Alexander Kozhevnikov

For the first time, the young goalkeeper showed himself at the age of less than 16 at the European Junior Championship, where hockey players under 19 played - the team coach Nikolai Puchkov, himself a well-known goalkeeper in the past, spoke about the budding goalkeeper to the Futbol-Hockey weekly.

In the 1968/69 season, Tretyak also made his debut in the USSR championship. The gates of CSKA were then defended by Nikolai Tolstikov, Viktor Tolmachev and Alexander Pashkov. However, Anatoly Tarasov three times released Tretiak on the ice, who made his debut a week before his 17th birthday, coming on as a substitute in a match with Avtomobilist.

That championship ended with a memorable scandalous match between CSKA and Spartak. Then, in the presence of Leonid Brezhnev, Tarasov took the team off the ice, protesting against the actions of the referee, who did not count Vladimir Petrov's puck. "Spartak" eventually won with a score of 3:1 and became the champion of the USSR.

"In my opinion, there were more talented goalkeepers, Tretiak did not have any super abilities. He developed his best qualities through great diligence and an analytical mindset"

Alexander Pashkov

First World Cup at 17

The following season, Tretyak played much more often, eventually ousting Tolstikov from the squad and becoming the champion of the USSR - for the first time out of 13. In 1970, Tretiak also went to his first world championship, which was held in March in Sweden, where he replaced Viktor Konovalenko, at the age of 17 he won the first title in the national team.

In total, Tretiak has 10 victories at the world championships, as well as triumphs at the 1972, 1976 and 1984 Olympics. In 1972, the 20-year-old Tretyak brilliantly played a super series of matches with the Canadian national team, gaining recognition from professionals and specialists from the National Hockey League (NHL).

In the first game in Montreal, Tretiak conceded already in the 30th second, when Phil Esposito finished off the puck that bounced off him, and in the 7th minute the Soviet team lost to the Canadians already 0:2.

But the young goalkeeper later rescued partners more than once, who ended the match with a historic victory over the founders of hockey - 7:3. In the next two matches in Toronto and Winnipeg, the organizers recognized Tretiak as the best in the USSR national team, although he conceded four goals each (1:4, 4:4).

"I think he still has no equal in goalkeeping, because in his years with other ammunition he did the impossible on the site. Tretyak is recognized by everyone, he is the greatest master"

Alexander Kozhevnikov

The goalkeeper who hates to lose

By his own admission, Tretyak hated to lose - it gave him almost physical pain. And although the partners often responded to missed goals with a large number of goals scored, Tretyak will never forget some failures - fortunately there were far fewer of them than bright victories.

At the 1980 Olympics in the American Lake Placid, the USSR team led by Viktor Tikhonov was a clear favorite - the NHL players did not go to the Games then, but among the players who played in Europe Soviet hockey players was not equal.

But the unforeseen happened: the US team, made up of hockey players from the lower and student leagues, defeated the Soviet team, which would soon be called nothing more than “Red Machine”. At the same time, Tikhonov replaced Tretiak after the first period (with a score of 2:2), but Vladimir Myshkin did not help either. The USSR national team remained in second place, and in the USA they still remember the "Miracle on Ice".

As a result, Tretyak was not destined to become a four-time Olympic champion. In 1984, after the Olympic season and the triumph at the Games in Yugoslav Sarajevo, Tretiak ended his career at the age of 32. It’s very early for a goalkeeper, but Tretyak is tired - not so much of hockey, but of the lifestyle of a player on the Soviet national team, who is forced to spend almost the entire year at training camps - away from his family.

Tikhonov did not make indulgence for the legend of world hockey, who was also famous for the discipline laid down by his father - according to the coach, the rules should be common to everyone.

Hockey players of that time were very fond of breaking the regime, relaxing after serious loads, but this was not about Tretiak. Married at 20, he free time spent with his family - wife Tatiana and two children. When he finally realized that there was simply not enough time, he ended his career - in the prime of life and at the peak of popularity.

Now the Tretyakov family already has three grandchildren, and Maxim became a goalkeeper, making his debut in the Continental hockey league as part of the "Admiral" from Vladivostok.

"Tretyak, as head of the FHR, managed to stabilize the work of the federation, to implement the program for the development of children's hockey, the construction of ice rinks and sports facilities. In addition, we are back among the leaders of world hockey. He is indispensable as president of the federation"

Alexander Pashkov

Departure for the USA

Tretyak was a star in North America, although he never played in the NHL. If Tretiak had decided to go to the overseas league, he would have had an exorbitant contract at the level of the world's best hockey player Wayne Gretzky, but such an option was impossible for a Soviet officer.

Tretyak continued to work for CSKA, as well as the International Olympic Committee. But in 1990, when the situation in the country began to change, Colonel Tretyak wrote a letter of resignation and went to the United States, where he became the goalkeeping coach of the Chicago Blackhawks club.

At that time, Tretiak was not even 40, in the NHL they seriously offered him a contract as an acting goalkeeper, but he did not return, perhaps realizing that there could be much more defeats than victories here.

For many years, Tretyak was not in demand at home, although the services of his school were used by many Russian players who played in North America. Only in 1998, Tretyak was included in the coaching staff of the Russian national team at the Nagano Olympics, where hockey players from the NHL played for the first time, with whose Russian representatives the famous goalkeeper had established contact.

Soon, Tretyak began his political career - in 2003, in the Saratov region, he was elected a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. And in 2006, Tretiak headed the Russian Hockey Federation - at a time when the domestic team had not won major tournaments for 13 years.

The arrival of Tretiak in many ways made it possible to end the regular conflicts between the leading hockey players and the federation, which is why the leaders of the national team regularly missed major international tournaments.

"He is a great athlete and an outstanding goalkeeper. He was distinguished by exceptional diligence, a sense of responsibility and duty to the team and the work entrusted to him, absolute honesty in behavior and relationships with people"

Alexander Pashkov

Olympic champion in 1972 as part of the USSR national ice hockey team, goalkeeper

Already in 2008, the Russian team regained the title of world champion, having won four world championships over the past 10 years and was left without medals only twice. Unable to submit to the Russian team, perhaps the Olympic Games, where there were two consecutive defeats in the quarterfinals, and the World Cup, where last year there was a defeat in the semifinals from the Canadians.

In addition to World Championships and Olympic titles, Tretiak won the Canada Cup in 1981, the last tournament with the strongest hockey players, where the national team achieved success.

In 1989, Tretyak entered the NHL Hall of Fame, in 1997 - into the newly formed Hall of Fame of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The IIHF also recognized Tretyak as the best hockey player of the 20th century and included him in the symbolic team of the century.

Tretiak was awarded the Orders of Lenin, the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Friendship of Peoples, the Badge of Honor, and For Merit to the Fatherland II, III and IV degrees.

Vladislav Tretiak is a real legend of Russian sports. On hockey ice this man always seemed like an alien. He was a goalkeeper capable of repelling any threat, and therefore the teams for which he played always achieved the highest results. So, playing for the USSR national team, this phenomenal player managed to lead it twenty-four times to the gold medals of various international forums. No less impressive were the achievements that Tretyak managed to achieve while playing in the sweater of his native CSKA.

Many victories made Vladislav Tretiak a living legend Soviet sports. Our today's hero managed to contribute to the development of hockey even after he officially ended his career. IN last years he worked fruitfully as a coach and sports director. Such efficiency and versatility of life profiles inspire respect. And therefore, our today's story about the legendary Soviet hockey player, for sure, will be very, very interesting.

The early years, childhood and family of Vladislav Tretiak

Vladislav Tretyak was born in the village of Orudyevo in the near Moscow region. His father worked as a pilot, and therefore he always devoted a lot of time to his physical training. No less athletic person was also the mother of the future hockey player, who taught physical education all her life.

That is why from the very early years our today's hero was constantly engaged in one or another sport. At first, he was fond of swimming, gymnastics, acrobatics, diving, but very soon hockey replaced all other hobbies. Tretiak was very fond of " ice battles”, and therefore, seeing such enthusiasm, the mother of our today's hero very soon took him to the hockey school of Moscow CSKA. In this team, Vladislav passed a strict competitive selection, striking the team's coaching staff with his ability to fearlessly rush to the puck.

So our today's hero ended up in the camp of the "army". In this team, Tretyak's formation as a professional hockey player took place. Here, later, our today's hero began his hockey career.

Having gone through all the steps of the club hierarchy, Vladislav joined the main team of the club when he was sixteen years old. However, he managed to "play" in the club only in the 1969 season. Our today's hero played his debut match at the gates of CSKA in a match against Spartak Moscow. And very soon he became the main goalkeeper of the team.

Tretyak, Vasiliev, Maltsev. Farewell match.

Around the same period, Vladislav Tretiak managed to participate several times in international tournaments as a player in the USSR youth team. With this team, the talented goalkeeper managed to achieve many important victories and get hold of their first awards.

However, very soon the career of a player in the youth team was interrupted. The reason for this was ... the call of the player to the main team of the country.

Career Tretiak-goalkeeper

In 1970, our today's hero was accepted as a reserve goalkeeper in the national team of the Soviet Union. In the same season, he first won gold medals at the Hockey World Championship in Stockholm. That victory made Tretiak believe in himself. Gaining experience, our today's hero felt more and more confident at the gates of CSKA and the USSR national team. And already at the next World Championship, the talented hockey player went in the status of the first goalkeeper. That international forum again became “golden” for the goalkeeper. Tretyak grew professionally, and very soon hockey experts and ordinary spectators began to talk about him as one of the brightest goalkeepers of his time.

In total, for his bright, albeit very short career, the Russian goalkeeper won ten world championship gold medals as part of the USSR national team, ten awards of similar value at the European championships. In addition, his track record also includes three Olympic gold medals and a medal. the highest standard won at the Canada Cup.

Vladislav Tretiak. "Goalkeeper without a mask"

In December 1984, Vladislav Tretyak took to the ice for the last time as a player in the USSR national team. As the goalkeeper himself said, he always wanted to spend more time with relatives and friends, because for a long time his wife and children saw him on TV more often than at home.

Vladislav Tretiak's career after hockey

At thirty-two, our today's hero began working as a functionary and coach. Initially, he worked as an employee of the international department of CSKA, later he served as deputy head of the sports games department, and was also a member of the Moscow Council of Deputies.

In the early 90s, at the personal invitation of the Chicago Blackhawks, Vladislav Tretyak moved to the United States, where he later worked as a goalkeeping coach for the named NHL team. In this capacity, he was able to achieve impressive success, and therefore, already in the second half of the 90s, he founded the Vladislav Tretiak International Sports Academy, which provided assistance to young hockey players.

As a goalkeeping coach, Vladislav Tretiak worked twice with the Russian national team (in 1998 and 2002). In addition, our today's hero was also part of the coaching staff of the main team of the Russian Federation at the 2004 World Cup.

Since 2000, Tretiak has been a member of the Presidential Council for Physical Culture and Sports. Since April 2006, Vladislav Aleksandrovich has been the head of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation.

Personal life Vladislav Tretyak

In August 1972, the hockey goalkeeper married a girl named Tatyana. A year later, a son Dmitry appeared in a young family (currently working as a dentist). In 1976, the happy family was replenished with another child - daughter Irina (now a successful lawyer).

Vladislav Tretiak. My hero

Only the grandson of Vladislav Tretiak, Maxim, chose the hockey path for himself. Today the young goalkeeper defends the colors of CSKA Moscow. On KHL draft the player was selected in the first round under the general 12th number.

Vladislav Aleksandrovich Tretyak was born on April 25, 1952 near Moscow. He studied at the CSKA hockey school in the group of Vladimir Erfilov. In the period from 1969 to 1984, he defended the gates of CSKA and the Soviet Union national team. Honored Master of Sports. He played more than 300 games with the USSR national team. World champion 1969,1970,1971,1973-1975,1978-1983, Olympic champion 1972 (Sapporo), 1976 (Innsbruck), 1984 (Sarajevo). As part of the CSKA team, he is a 12-time champion of the USSR. The rate of missed goals: 2.40 per game. Tretyak was recognized as the best hockey player in the country 5 times. Tretyak is the first European goalkeeper to face Canadian professionals. His game has always been distinguished by the highest degree of reliability, self-discipline.

Tony Esposito, in an interview after the USSR-Canada series, stated the following: “After the games of the first half of the series, our press reproached the Canadian forwards with might and main. But she reproached in vain ... Ken and I, professional goalkeepers, played in these matches with the Russians as amateurs. Tretyak - as a professional of the highest class. And if he had wished to play in the NHL, any club would have been willing to sign a contract with him...” Sarajevo brought a contract to the White Olympics, the amount affixed in which had a tail of six zeros. In such a characteristic way for themselves, the Canadians finally recognized Vladislav as the best - not one of the best, but the best - goalkeeper in the world. Alas, that season of 1983/84 was the last for Vladislav Tretiak. “I'm tired and that's why I'm leaving ...” - he said then. Well, for a decade and a half, even steel - literally steel - ropes fail due to “fatigue” (there is such a term) of the metal. But human nerves are not steel ropes...

After completing his performances, Vladislav Tretyak works in Canada and the USA as an NHL goaltending coach, in particular in the Chicago team. Among his students are Martin Brodeur from New Jersey, Ed Belfour from Dallas (it is the combat of two students of the great goaltender that can decide the fate of the Stanley Cup in this year). Tretiak's collection contains a large number of medals, sports trophies and government awards.

In late December 1967 - early January 1968, the first European Championship for hockey players under 19 was held in Finland. Then the coach of the Soviet team Nikolai Puchkov, an outstanding goalkeeper, said: “In general, I don’t like to lavish compliments on young people (friends will confirm this), but now I’m willingly changing my rule, I have one boy named Vladik. He conquered me in training with an amazing reaction, mobility, courage. I believe it will be useful."

Puchkov was not mistaken: this boy was Vladislav Tretyak, the future three-time Olympic champion. Puchkov's words about Tretyak were published in the 52nd issue of the weekly "Football-Hockey" for 1967. So for the first time in the press appeared the name of the future 10-time world champion, 9-time European champion, 13-time champion of the USSR. For five years in a row, during the summer holidays, Vladik, like most of his peers, went to a pioneer camp. Almost half of the time the guys went in for sports there. The pioneers ran cross-country, played ping-pong and volleyball for hours, and the boys also played football. In school competitions, Vladik became an athlete, basketball player, football player, skier. And everywhere he wanted to become a champion. One day the boy said to his mother: "I will definitely be a champion." "Athlete," she corrected. "No, only the champion!". Years later, Vera Petrovna and Vladik recalled that conversation with a smile.

Following the example of his older brother, Vladislav tried to swim (in the Dynamo pool), then he became interested in diving. It was then that he learned to overcome fear - he jumped from a five-meter tower. The height at first seemed huge, and the water - hard as asphalt.

Once, with three peers, Vladik went to Leningradsky Prospekt early in the morning. It seemed that all the boys in Moscow that morning decided to become hockey players. Directly Babylonian pandemonium was observed at the Ice Palace of CSKA - there was a set for a hockey school. Coaches tested the ability of candidates to skate in reverse. When Vladik entered, Sunday family trips to the skating rink at the Gorky Central Park of Culture and Culture came in handy - by this time he was already good at skating, it is not surprising that Tretyak was among the four accepted into the famous club. Of course, the lesson also helped to pass the exam. different types sports.

Vladik went through the competition as a striker. From now on, he regularly attended training - three times a week for an hour and a half. For a whole month, he was looking forward to the day when he, along with other beginners, would be given a hockey uniform, like the one he once saw in his mother's class (she worked as a physical education teacher), where there were two boys who studied at the CSKA school. Finally, Vladik could not stand it and, taking advantage of the fact that no one wanted to play at the gate, he approached coach Vitaly Georgievich Erfilov and said: "If you give me a real form, then I will be a goalkeeper." And I heard the question: "Aren't you afraid?" - "What is there to be afraid of?" - the boy answered ingenuously and went to the gate.

How did Tretiak then know how painfully the puck hits and how hard the goalkeeper's lot is in general ?! Most of all at that time he wanted to get a real hockey uniform. And here I got it.

Vladislav Tretiak got used to bruises quickly. But to the failures for all the years spent in hockey, he could not. Maybe this is because in CSKA and in the USSR national team the goalkeeper and his teammates more often had to win rather than lose? "Failures were downright physical pain in me," Tretyak once remarked. In his youth, it happened that after the defeat he could not hold back his tears - he became so bitter and ashamed. He literally sobbed, and the whole team calmed him down.

For the USSR national team, only at the World and European Championships and at the Olympic Games, Vladislav Tretyak played 117 matches. The first meetings with the best players in North America, which took place in the fall of 1972, stand apart. Before that, we perceived professionals as thugs with sticks at the ready, crushing everything in their path. And across the ocean they saw in our guys soulless robots, blindly carrying out the instructions of party and sports functionaries. Even we had a lot of people who believed in the great superiority of hockey players from the NHL over the Soviet players. But the meetings were held on an equal footing and ended with dignity for Soviet hockey. Goalkeeper Vladislav Tretiak from the very first matches became a favorite of Canadian spectators. First of all, I admired his extraordinary skill - with some incomprehensible dexterity, he caught the pucks that flew into the gates of the USSR national team. Experienced in hockey, Canadians have never seen anything like this before!

To no lesser extent, overseas hockey fans were impressed by something else in Tretiak: the open smile of a tall Russian guy, his friendliness, a benevolent attitude towards everyone. It happened that in Canada Tretiak spent hours (!) handing out autographs to fans.

The popularity of the goalkeeper of CSKA and the USSR national team in the homeland of hockey is amazing: in North America, his books were published four times, instantly swept away from store shelves. The most prominent Canadian statesmen considered it an honor to shake his broad hand and take a picture next to him, an officer of the Soviet Army. Tretyak graduated from the Lenin Military-Political Academy. Leaving the ice, he was in administrative work at CSKA and the sports committee of the USSR Ministry of Defense, represented the Armed Forces in the presidium of the USSR Ice Hockey Federation.

For 15 years, Vladislav Tretiak remained the first goalkeeper in our country. During this time, he was recognized four times as the best at the world championships. But he did not have time to play for professionals. He was invited as a second coach in canadian club Edmonton Oilers. But then it was not customary to go abroad to play or train. But these days, Tretiak is often overseas – now he has a contract with Chicago, according to which he is a goalkeeping coach and consultant. Yes, and today's work in Moscow - the president of the International Sports Academy, which bears his name - requires numerous contacts with foreigners. This year, by mutual agreement of the International Ice Hockey Federation, the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and the well-known Swiss watch company, the official sponsor of the World Championship held in St. Petersburg, Vladislav Tretiak was named the best hockey player of the 20th century, the first European to the Hockey Hall of Fame (in Toronto).

Vladislav Aleksandrovich Tretyak, a retired colonel, was awarded the Orders of Lenin, the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Friendship of Peoples, the Badge of Honor, and the medal For Labor Valour.
