- This is a deep love, we just breathe in unison. From the very beginning, it seemed that we had been together for an eternity, says Gasparin.
At the same time, the promising biathlete had no idea in August 2011 who this attractive young skier was, who caught her eye in the Swiss ski resort of Andermatte in the canton of Uri.
– Although six months earlier I had seen in live, as he took bronze at the World Championships in Oslo, I just could not remember this Russian name, - says Selina.
Together with his coach Reto Burgmeister and the Russian ski team, Chernousov spends time at a training camp in Urserental, the same place where the Swiss biathlon team is based.
It's love at first sight in the camp canteen! And since at the very beginning of a cautious rapprochement, feelings remain at a distance, Ilya even queues up for an autograph for Selina at the Biathlon Kidz Day children's festival.
Only next October, thanks to the chance that brought the two together again at a training session in Oberhof, Germany, a real spark runs. Since then, Selina and Ilya have been inseparable, although most often they are separated by kilometers.
“Since we have been together, we have only had four days when we did not communicate on Skype,” says Ilya. Our record is a four-hour conversation. I have no idea what we could talk about for so long.
Since biathlon competitions and cross-country skiing never settle down in the same place, the Russian-Swiss couple rarely spend time near each other in winter. The more they appreciate the rare joint vacation. Like the ones they had in the spring of 2012.
Ilya invites Selina somewhere to an unknown place. He promises to organize everything. And now the Swiss travels, without suspecting anything, to the airport, so that many hours later, together with Ilya, to observe the huge turtles on the Galapagos Islands.
